LGBTQ+ Counseling

I'm a gay therapist, and being part of the LGBTQ+ community myself has shaped how I understand a lot of what clients bring into session — not just the specific issues, but the day-to-day context of living in that community. Over the years, that's turned into a specialty of mine.

That said, I try not to assume that's why someone's in my office. Plenty of the people I see aren't there because of their sexual orientation or gender identity at all — it's just one part of who they are, not the reason they reached out. But for people who want a therapist who already understands the context of their life without having to explain the basics first, I hear pretty regularly that it makes a real difference.

Areas I've worked in extensively include, among others:

  • Coming out

  • Sexual orientation and identity

  • Transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer or genderfluid identities

  • Microaggressions

  • Workplace concerns

  • Religion

  • Dating and relationships

  • Open relationships and non-monogamy

  • Sexual health

Assessments and Evaluations:

I conduct assessments and evaluations for individuals who are beginning hormone therapy or seeking gender affirming surgery and require documentation for these procedures.

**If you are seeking an evaluation for this purpose, please reach out to me even if my website indicates that I don’t have availability and inform me of your inquiry.
